Captain and Coach

Nicholas Pooran is the captain of the TKR Squad for CPL 2026. He is a left-handed batter and wicketkeeper. He is calm as a leader but can also score runs very quickly.

Dwayne Bravo is the head coach for the second season. The former West Indies all-rounder knows the team and Caribbean cricket very well. His experience helps him work with both senior players and young talents.

Overseas Players

The Trinbago Knight Riders have five overseas players in their squad for CPL 2026 who add extra skill to the team:

  • Colin Munro – A powerful left-handed opening batter.
  • Alex Hales – An experienced batter who can score quickly.
  • Matthew Breetzke – A South African batter who adds stability and power.
  • Usman Tariq – A Pakistani off-spinner who gives the team another bowling option.
  • Amshi de Silva – A useful all-rounder who can help with both bat and ball.

The team can play a maximum of four overseas players in any match. These players give the Knight Riders more options in batting and bowling and can help the team handle different pitches across the Caribbean.

Local Players

The local players are the main strength of the team. Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, and Akeal Hosein are the experienced stars of the squad. Justin Greaves and Dominic Drakes add all-round skills. Joshua Da Silva is a reliable wicketkeeper who can also score useful runs. Jyd Goolie and Dexter Sween provide more batting choices, while Terrance Hinds adds pace and energy to the bowling attack.

Young players Nathan Edward and Abdul-Raheem Toppin are the team’s Breakout Players. They represent the next generation of Caribbean cricket talent. The local players know Caribbean conditions well. Their experience with different pitches and the demands of a long tournament gives the Knight Riders a strong base.

Key Players to Watch

Several players could make a big difference for the Knight Riders in CPL 2026.

Nicholas Pooran will be important with both bat and gloves. He can score runs quickly, especially in the middle of the innings. Kieron Pollard can still change a match with powerful hitting and offers valuable experience to the team. Sunil Narine remains a difficult bowler for batters to face. He can also score useful runs lower down the order. Akeal Hosein provides accurate bowling and can control the game during important overs.

Among the overseas players, Colin Munro can score quickly in the powerplay, while Alex Hales brings experience and reliable batting. Usman Tariq could also be important, especially on slower pitches that help spin bowlers. Young players such as Nathan Edward and Abdul-Raheem Toppin will also be exciting to watch. Since every team must play at least one breakout player in each match, these young cricketers should get chances to show their talent.

Probable Playing XI

A possible playing XI in the CPL 2026 for the Trinbago Knight Riders squad could be:

  1. Colin Munro
  2. Alex Hales
  3. Nicholas Pooran (Captain & Wicketkeeper)
  4. Kieron Pollard
  5. Matthew Breetzke
  6. Justin Greaves
  7. Sunil Narine
  8. Dominic Drakes
  9. Akeal Hosein
  10. Terrance Hinds
  11. Usman Tariq

Joshua Da Silva can provide extra wicketkeeping cover. Nathan Edward or Abdul-Raheem Toppin could also play when the team needs more pace or to meet the Breakout Player rule. The final playing XI may change depending on the pitch and the opposition.

Team Strengths

The Knight Riders have many strengths. Their batting line-up has plenty of power, with players like Pooran, Pollard, Munro, and Hales able to score quickly. The spin attack is also strong, with Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, and Usman Tariq available.

Many local players have been part of the franchise for a long time, so they understand the conditions and team culture very well. The strong leadership of Pooran and Bravo is another advantage. Playing home matches at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad could also help the team.

Team Weaknesses

The Knight Riders also have some areas that could cause problems. The team does not have a very fast specialist bowler compared with some other teams. Much of the bowling experience comes from senior players who are getting older.

The middle order could also be tested if the team loses early wickets and the overseas batters do not perform well. The team has limited fast-bowling depth, which could be a problem on pitches that offer extra pace and bounce. Managing the workload of older and experienced players during a long season will also be important.

Previous CPL Performance

The Trinbago Knight Riders won the CPL title in 2025 and have a very successful history in the tournament. They have won several CPL titles and regularly reached the playoffs in recent years.

Many of the players who helped the team succeed last season are still part of the squad. This gives the Knight Riders confidence heading into CPL 2026. However, other teams have also become stronger, so the Knight Riders will need to perform well to defend their title.
