Daniel Sams is a lively Australian cricket player. He is an all-rounder, which means he bats and bowls well. He is famous for his powerful hitting and fast left-arm bowling. Also, he is a T20 cricket expert and plays for teams around the world. His nickname is “the Karate Kid” because he is quick and full of energy when fielding. He also plays in many leagues and does very well, especially in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Early Life and Background

Daniel Richard Sams grew up in a family that loved sports. He was born on 27 October 1992 in Milperra, New South Wales. He started in local cricket and worked his way up to play for Australia. They lived in the suburbs of Sydney. From a young age, he showed real talent in cricket. His parents were very supportive. They helped him balance schoolwork and cricket training. He went to De La Salle College in Revesby Heights.

His brother, Anthony Sams, played as a wicketkeeper in grade cricket. This family support made him fall in love with the game. At first, Daniel played club cricket for Bankstown. Later, he moved to Randwick Petersham.

Domestic Cricket Career

Daniel Sams started his domestic cricket career in Australia with New South Wales. But he made his first first-class debut for Canterbury in New Zealand during the 2017-18 Plunket Shield season. This chance came after he played very well in grade cricket. Later, he went back to play Sheffield Shield matches for New South Wales.

In the Big Bash League (BBL), he first played for the Sydney Sixers in 2017. He took four wickets in his very first game — a great start! After that, he moved to the Sydney Thunder and became one of their main players. His strong BBL performances helped him a lot. In the 2019-20 season, he took 30 wickets and was the top wicket-taker.

He has also played in overseas leagues, such as The Hundred for Trent Rockets and the ILT20 for teams like Sharjah Warriorz. Recently, he signed with Nottinghamshire in early 2025 and with Somerset for the 2026 T20 Blast.

International Cricket Career

He earned his Australia call-up after strong Big Bash League performances. He debuted in T20I against India in December 2020 and played 10 T20 Internationals until 2022, touring England, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. Though he showed flashes of talent with his aggressive style, he never secured a regular spot. His last T20I was against England in October 2022. He has no Test or ODI caps.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has been a big success for Daniel. He joined the Barbados Royals and played very well.
